Mission

Our mission is to create collective paths to living with death and loss.  In finding purpose, peace, and possibility in grief, we create a shared future of health, joy, and liberation.

Core Values

  • We understand that we are all connected to each other, and stronger together; creative and generative collaborations can break cycles and build a healthier community

Internal Practice and Commitment

We commit to individually and collectively putting into practice the engagement and growth we want to see, and hold ourselves accountable. We commit to open and honest conversations within and without the organization, to dedicating time in our lives to continuously reflect and learn, and to finding joy and meaning in our work with each other and the community. 

Long Term Organizational Goals

  • Create and promote creative, interdisciplinary approaches to a death-positive culture in which we normalize and incorporate death, grief, and loss into our daily lives

  • Foster a strong collaborative network with partners to create a robust referral network of services and care, share best practices, and enhance coordinated impact

  • Helping shape best practices and models of care through advocacy and sharing lessons learned

  • Build organizational infrastructure and tools necessary to provide direct services as end-of-life partners, advocates, doulas, medical and legal guide and help expand services to underserved communities

  • Promote ways in which the exploration of death, dying and grief can bring peace, community, and love to all

Strategic objectives

  1. Create Community–Good Mourning Club

Create a community in which people can support each other in death, grief, and loss, and exchange ideas, art, services, and normalize conversations around these topics

  1. Create a website and app to serve as platform for Good Mourning Club

  2. Create and diversify community engagement through social media, website, and app

  3. Publish and disseminate stories, art, and insight from community members collected through this engagement


  1. Expand dialogue and access to information

Create models and opportunities that meet community members in various settings to expand access death and grief learning and education 

  1. Develop facilitated workshop modules that can engage various groups in conversations about death, death planning, grief, and loss in a range of formal and informal settings

  2. Host creative events to facilitate dialogue, including art/music nights, curated dinners, and community events, including many in partnership with or sponsored by other organizations to provide greater access 


  1. Advocate to reduce inequities in death and grief services

Research and develop best practices and advocate for broader systematic implementation of death positive practices and policies to reduce inequities in services related to death and grief

  1. Create a robust network and collaborations with interdisciplinary partners to learn from, share best practices, advocate with, and expand resources for organization and community 

  2. Research and develop white papers, discussion forums, and other opportunities to advocate for change


  1. Financial Sustainability

Develop sources of sustainable funding for organization, expand services, and provide fair wages for all staff

  1. Launch foundational fundraising focused on donations and merch sales

  2. Diversify and develop long-term funding, including grants and fees for services provided
